Under-Achieving, One Backflip At A Time

jun06sm.jpg Phew, looks like I have a little time before bed to update this - and I'm fresh from breaking the 2000 Achievement Point barrier on my Xbox 360 Live account, thanks to my completion of the wacked-out Amped 3 - it feels nice to have a little spare time to play video games, since I write about them all the time.

Anyhow, as you can see, the June/July 2006 issue of Game Developer magazine is already in the hands of subscribers, and includes a neeto Indigo Prophecy postmortem from creator David Cage - in fact, we printed the entire uncut 8,000 word version on Gamasutra shortly after the issue debuted - hey, the web is pretty useful! All the issues are getting mashed together now, but look out for the 2006 Game Developer Career Guide shipping pretty soon, complete with a LARGE amount of good content for those wanting to get into the game biz, and an Evan Dorkin-drawn cover that, uhh, apes Nirvana's Nevermind album art. Seriously. Yay!

Oh, and the 2006 Webby Awards in New York were a whirlwind trip, but a blast nonetheless - I got to see Prince playing live and then throwing his guitar over his head, all rockstar-like, and bizarre Gorillaz puppets accepting their special award, and I got on stage with Rob Corddry and said my five word speech on behalf of Gamasutra ('Art... plus science... equals games', for the record!), and didn't cry and/or vomit and/or collapse. There's a few pics of the night over at my Flickr account, for the terminally nosy.

Other than that - well, it's business as usual at Gamasutra, with all the breakin' news and interviews with old gaming fogeys that we can fit in, and the column count on GameSetWatch keeps increasing - I think we're up to about 10 weekly or bi-weekly guest columns now from all kinds of interesting folk. GSW is still a bit of a luxury on my part, since it's not particularly 'OMG! XBOX 360!', so is unlikely to be a Gawker Media-size hit, but I think everyone who reads it appreciates what it's going for. Oh, and we're trying out a 'social' game news site in the form of Gamerbytes, so we'll see if the OMG! folks flock to that instead - nuff said! OK... to bed!
