Oh, September, isn't it?

aug06sm.jpg Well, it certainly seems to be almost the end of summer, yay - good news for people like me who live in the hawt San Jose, but little difference in the coastal fog-tastic San Francisco where I work. So... what's been going on in the past month or so?

Well, the picture you can see above is for the August issue of Game Developer magazine, which shipped literally ages ago. We also finished the September issue, which stars Tetris creator Alexey Pazhitnov - it's done and sent out to subscribers. We're even pretty close to concluding the October 2006 issue, which features the regular Top 20 Publishers chart and a postmortem of Iron Lore's hack n' slash-mungous Titan Quest in it - so plenty of reading matter out there for you lucky subscribers!

Also, our various web properties continue to do pretty good - Gamasutra is ticking over excellently, and we just added a couple of new columns - I particularly like Shang Koo's 'The China Angle' column, which gives some great insight into the fascinating Chinese game market. Jon Jordan's 'The Euro Vision' column also gives some great perspectives from a veteran UK game journo.

Oh, also, we just launched a brand new website - Game Career Guide, which segues off our popular yearly print guide to present a full guide to game education, both from the view of those already enrolled and those thinking about getting into the game biz. It's being edited (excellently!) by Beth Dillon, and has a particularly good 'Getting Started' section, if you want to, uhm, get started.

Otherwise, the Main Competition deadline of the IGF just passed (record number of entries! XBLA games! More on this later), I started the new/wacky Pop Cult Scan Fun blog for bizarre ephemera I've been collecting recently. Finally, updates may be a little light on my various non-work or semi-work blogs, since me and Holly are off to Japan later this week for an extended holiday, with Tokyo Game Show wedged in the middle, and then I'm off to London Games Week almost straight after I get back - finally back to normal in second week of October. See you then!
